Chalkboard love
Although a reminder of school days, using chalkboards is a great way of getting a little DIY touch into your day. You can use chalkboard paint to transform a mirror/photo frame/log/window etc into writing heaven.Photo Credit (left to right):

Yet another use for your empty glass jars. The ‘Eat Me’ and ‘Drink Me’ tags were created from the stamp kit shown here.
Create your signature cocktail and serve it in your guest’s very own jar. Just maybe make sure that the cocktails aren’t lethal strength first….!

Who would have thought that baked bean tins could be used as vases?I presume at this point that everyone’s family hoard tins of wall paint in the garage from countless decoration jobs around the house? If you’re normal and don’t then getting the ‘tester’ sizes are a great way of getting your colour(s) at a budget price.
Alternatively, wrap some lace around your tins for more of a shabby-chic/vintage feel.

Here is another use for your jars…hanging candles.
We used soft wire and wrapped it around the lip of the jar (pasta jars or anything with a screw top are easier for grip), cut and tie in a tight knot.
Next using your required length, tie and knot. The best way of doing this is to use a self tightening slip knot on one side (like a neck tie) so that the wire tightens when it is hanging.
We used church candles but tea lights would work just as well.
Super pretty and it’s the kind of DIY project that you could even rope your HTB into…weight distribution, knot tying and cutting wire - all manly.

These photobooth props were made during the family ‘DIY morning’ and are so easy to do.
The prop printout was courtesy of In The Treehouse - an amazing stationery website.
The straws were purchased from amazon.
Together with some nimble scissor cutting and tape securing….voila. Simple props to provide fun for any photobooth.

I have got my whole family collecting jars (Douwe Egberts Coffee jars are a particular fine jar if you need the tip) with a mind to using them for flowers.
Using a ball of twine purchased in Hobbycraft and some ribbons I bought from Amazon, we sat down for ‘DIY hour’ which actually turned into ‘DIY two hours’ and then ‘DIY morning’…much to my sisters’ delight (do not worry, they were fed well for their efforts).
We used glue dots to secure the ribbon but the twine was easy - you can wrap it around the jar and secure it by wrapping tightly and knotting it back onto itself.
Very easy and very rustic/shabby chic.

DIY String Heart
(via greenweddingshoes)
Materials Needed:
• piece of wood – the bigger the more dramatic!
• string – we used the pink neon thin rope you can find at Home Depot, but you could use any yarn or string
• box of nails (if want a nail with a decent head so the string won’t pop off)
• spray paint to paint the wood
• white paper to draw the heart onStep 1: Spray paint the wood the background color you picked. We used dark gray, so the pink would really pop
Step 2: Once the paint is dry, tape the wood with the white paper and draw the heart shape on the paper
Step 3: Time to get the hammer out! Nail around the entire outline of the heart – we spaced our nails about an inch apart.
Step 4: Once all your nails are in. Remove the white paper and throw it away.
Step 5: Now the fun part. Get your string and tie a knot around the head of one of the nails. Keep stringing the string around nails. There isn’t a right or wrong way – just keep going until you like the pattern you created. I also then outlined the entire heart to make the outline pop a bit more also.
Total cost for this project – $35 (the most expensive part is the wood!) and it can be done in a few hours.
