Autumn Weddings

An autumn wedding can be really quite special; the leaves turn and   give the most wonderfully colourful backdrop and the sky is crisp and blue. Pumpkins could be used for decoration but who said that they have to be orange?

1920’s Theme

Like most of the UK I am pulled into the charms of Downton Abbey and I am seriously excited about the release of Baz Luhrmann’s Great Gatsby (if you haven’t seen the trailer then watch it) Gatsby, what Gatsby?

Both are the influence behind this little theme board - a Downton Abbey/Great Gatsby/1920’s wedding. Take the style and pomp of the English and the hip-swinging vibe of America and you have yourself the perfect wedding.

Mint Green, Sage Green, Seafoam Green…

With so many types of green it’s no wonder it took me an age to gather these pictures. Green weddings (whichever hue you choose) are beautiful and natural. A lovely contrast is to use green and peach….now there’s an idea for my next inspiration theme!

For the love of lace…

I am biased because I have always loved lace but it is such a wonderful way to get your wedding day looking pretty and rustic and vintage all in one piece of timeless fabric.

With lace wedding dresses more popular than ever, it is also bang on trend to use lace in some way on your day.

I am seriously hankering after those lace curtains….!

Purple Prettiness

I am having a bit of a purple crush this morning; it’s vibrant and makes me smile.

East meets West

If you want to incorporate some of the orient into your wedding day then maybe you will be inspired from the above.

If you just want touches of the East you could use paper lanterns, orchids, or create a fan display. For those of you that want a bold display of eastern culture then a traditional Lion Dance is the perfect way to do this - said to bring good luck and ward off evil.

The invitations are from Tickle Me Ink on Etsy.

The paper lanterns can be bought from Not On The Highstreet.

Hot Pink

I love the idea of injecting such a vibrant colour into a wedding day. All of the photographs featured above make me smile and that’s what I think using a colour like hot pink is all about.

Regardless of whether I get this colour past the groom-committee, I now need some hot pink shoes!

Something Blue

Many brides try and incorporate items to match the good luck saying used in the Victorian era, ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe’.

The blue part of the saying symbolised faithfulness, loyalty and purity for the Victorians and often the couple would have blue stitched onto the edge of their clothing.

Today’s bride is more likely to incorporate blue as part of her garter or even her shoes.

The images above are just to give an idea of how you could incorporate blue into your day. One of my personal favourites is by using blue glass for your vases, and of course the blue shoes!

Yellow

I love the idea of a yellow themed wedding, it’s Spring/Summer, sunshine and daisy’s without being too girly for your HTB.

A bride kissing her yellow clad mother is a particular favourite picture of mine. Just lovely.

Winter

I know that technically we are in the wrong time of year to be yearning after a snowy wedding but there will always be brides who will spend their whole summer planning a frosty wedding day. So, just for them, I have put together some of my favourite winter inspired weddings from Style Me Pretty.

Grab some mulled wine, turn the heating off and cosy down under a rug and just pretend that its cold outside.
